Kim & Gisèle’s Favourite QuickBook Software Features

Hurrah for QuickBooks Training with The Art of AccountingOne of the bestselling features of QuickBooks software is its ability to grow with your business. That’s why it’s Canada’s #1 accounting software for business. Typically, new businesses start slow, yet have the amazing opportunity to gain momentum and flourish, not only by going out and getting the work, but also having an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes.

QuickBooks has a variety of features and preferences that help businesses run smoothly. What do you need from your accounting software? Below are just a few of our favourite features found under Company Preferences that make running your day to day tasks so much easier.

QuickBooks software preferencesSetting Up Users and Passwords

QuickBooks allows you set up multiple users so that they have access to the appropriate files. QuickBooks also allows you to define the level of access each user requires; for instance a part-time assistant may not necessarily need access to payroll records or monthly financial statements.

Closing Date

It is always considered best practice to set a closing date on your QuickBooks file. This eliminates the risk of another user accidentally altering transactions that have been previously reconciled and reported on, which can also help elevate year-end stress.

Transaction Warnings

Set a warning when transactions have been created outside of the current reporting period.  This helpful tool warns when a transaction has been posted so many days in the past or into the future.

Desktop View

Because QuickBooks has been credited to be the #1 accounting solution for small business, it has to be able to accommodate various business types. Not all businesses run payroll, produce inventory, or create estimates and sales receipts. These are just a few of the functions that can be disabled from your desktop view.  De-clutter and use the desktop icons that are useful for running your business.

Reminder Window

This is one function that is not used enough and it’s a great tool. As your business becomes busier and more demanding it’s easy to lose track of deadlines. Set reminders for specific tasks such as invoicing, running statements, inventory to be reordered, bills to pay, money to be deposited, etc. You can choose the date you want to be reminded and set your Reminder Window to open when QuickBooks first starts up. It only takes a couple of clicks to reset recurring reminders to the next date. So efficient!
